Alpha Five is the rip-roaring "David" to MS Access's "Goliath".

Performing in much the same arena as Access -- small to medium sized databases for personal/business use, it offers true ease of use. "Access on steroids" is a common description by aficionados.

Alpha Five has stayed with the simplicity of maintaining data in individual .dbf files, rather than the Access approach of placing everything within one .mdb. Rules for working with data are typically linked directly to the applicable fields.

Development in Alpha Five takes place on three levels.

1. Visually design your forms and reports, set up tables and sets (aka queries)
2. An intermediate level, unique to Alpha Five, called Action Scripts
3. Alpha Five has, like Access, a full scale programming language, XBasic. What cannot be accomplished via Visual layout and Scripting, can be done with XBasic.
